New development (7 June 2007) This site has been partially in error for the last couple of years (!). But now I'm relaunching the pages, inspired by the appearance of Geni.com which I think will have tho potential of being THE site for genealogy.

Here you will find a desciption of the idea behind FamilyWeb and references to the FamilyWebs I have made, starting from my grand-parents. You can also find some general references on genealogy.

FamilyWeb is a proposal for the use of WWW in genealogy. As such it is an example of the use of the web by ordinary people.

The skeleton for genealogy consists of ancestor charts or ahnentafels and lists of descendants. A typical aspect is that a given person typically is very interested in his or her own ancestors and descendants with decreasing interest as the relationship weakens.

WorldWideWeb is a fantastic solution to this problem. I use Brother's Keeper as my working database. Based on this I have made three versions of my FamilyWeb:

My review of version 2.4a is still available for historical reasons. In general, the review describes the problems caused by automatic generation of web-pages and links in and out of the structure.
